BenlystaŽ Approved as a New Treatment for Systemic Lupus
After waiting more than 50 years for a new treatment for lupus, on March 9, 2011 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Benlysta® as a treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), commonly called lupus. Benlysta becomes the first new FDA-approved treatment ever developed specifically for the disease. Sandra C. Raymond, President and CEO of the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) issued a statement to recognize the significance of this long-awaited development in lupus research.
